Dec 18th – Seattle’s very own folk and chamber pop artist Helen America has released the single ‘Dynamite’ off of her upcoming full length Red Sun, out December 20th.
‘Dynamite’ is an energetic, unexpected glance into the strange and intriguing world of Helen America, supported by ukulele, a surprising chord progression, and of course, her signature vocal style. Lyrically, the new single is whimsical, while allowing dark undertones to peak through the cracks in the carousel-gone-folk instrumentals, peppered with clever rhyming schemes and allusions to various works of literature.
While there’s no doubt about Helen America’s talent and passion for the creative, her sound isn’t called ‘freak-folk’ for nothing, and this piece encompasses the best of that descriptor: unapologetic, infectious, and above all, one-of-a-kind. Anyone looking for something a little off the beaten path in terms of genre should definitely be adding ‘Dynamite’ to their playlists, and making a note to check out her album Red Sun when it releases on Friday.
Happy Release Day, Helen America! ❤
